ARTIST STATEMENT

My fascination with movement began at a very young age. Long before I understood the history of painting, I sensed that the body in motion could express what words often cannot.

My art studies led me to painting and art history, while the years I spent living in Europe expanded this fascination toward other disciplines that continue to shape my practice: architecture, opera, ballet, and classical music. Each shares the ability to create emotion through rhythm, space, and gesture.

Today, I return each day to my studio in Oxapampa, surrounded by woodland. There, nature has ceased to be simply a landscape and has become an active presence in my painting. Gradually, it began to infiltrate my work, occupying architectural spaces and entering into dialogue with references from art history, as if reclaiming its place.

My work emerges from this encounter: movement, the memory of painting, personal emotion, and nature coexisting within the same pictorial space.

BIOGRAPHY

Daniella Queirolo was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to the United States in her early twenties, graduating summa cum laude from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Her years living abroad and extensive travels through the United States and Europe shaped a multifaceted visual language informed by art history, architecture, theatre, dance, opera, and music. These influences continue to emerge through the movement, rhythm, and spatial depth present in her paintings.

Working between her studios in Lima and the woodlands of Oxapampa, Peru, Queirolo has developed a contemporary figurative practice in which the human figure, nature, and references to the history of painting converge. Her recent work expands this dialogue, reinterpreting classical imagery through her own pictorial language and personal experience.

Queirolo’s work has received international recognition. Her painting First Grace was named a Finalist in the Target Prize 2026. She was Highly Commended at the Visual Artist of the Year Award in London (2024) and received the Best Overseas Painter Prize at The Holly Bush Painting Prize, UK (2021).

She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, art fairs, and international events across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Her paintings are represented by international galleries and are held in private collections worldwide.
